This Cookie Policy explains how Vala, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Vala”, “we”, “us”, “our”), uses cookies and similar technologies when individuals (“visitors” or “users”) visit Vala-controlled web surfaces, including our public website (the “Public Site”), Vala web application (the “Application”), and Vala-hosted public forms (collectively, the “Site”), to secure the Site, provide functionality, and understand how users interact with it. Optional analytics on the Public Site initializes only when a visitor chooses Allow analytics. In the Application, optional product analytics may initialize by default when no preference is stored and the browser does not send a Global Privacy Control signal; users can change that choice through Privacy Settings. A stored decline and a browser Global Privacy Control signal disable optional analytics.

1. What are cookies and other trackers?

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that may be placed on your computer, mobile, or handheld device when you visit certain pages on the Internet. Cookies are stored in your browser and may help the Site recognize your device on a later visit. Depending on their purpose, cookies may process device or browser information and general information about how visitors arrive at and use the Site.

Browser local storage

We use browser local storage, a browser storage mechanism separate from cookies, to remember an analytics preference on this device. The preference is stored as either “accepted” or “declined” and remains until you change it through Privacy Settings or clear browser storage.

In this Cookie Policy, “cookies and similar technologies” includes cookies and browser local storage where described.

Strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies:

Certain cookies and similar technologies may be required for the operation of the Site, such as browser storage that supports sign-in, security, or a service that you explicitly request. These technologies are not optional analytics controls. You can set your browser to block or alert you about cookies, but some parts of the Site may not work if you block or clear required browser storage.

Functional cookies and similar technologies:

Functional cookies and similar technologies may provide requested functionality by remembering choices on a device. Vala uses browser local storage to remember an analytics preference and certain functionality preferences.

Performance cookies:

When a visitor chooses Allow analytics, Vala uses Google Analytics to understand use of the Public Site. Where applicable to the Vala Application, Vala also uses PostHog for optional product analytics. Application analytics may initialize by default when no preference is stored, unless the user has declined analytics or the browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. If a user declines optional analytics, these analytics services are not initialized for that choice.

4. Lifespans

The cookies and similar technologies used by the Site have different lifespans. Browser local storage used for the analytics preference remains until you change the choice or clear browser storage. Cookies set by third-party providers after optional analytics is enabled are subject to the relevant provider settings and may have different durations.

5. Information about tracking with Google Analytics

On the Public Site, we use Google Analytics only after you choose Allow analytics. The Application may use Google Analytics when no preference is stored, subject to Privacy Settings and a browser Global Privacy Control signal. Google Analytics uses cookies to help us understand use of the Services. Vala configures page-view events to send a sanitized page path and location. Query parameters likely to contain sensitive information, including email, token, password, authorization, session, and JWT parameters, are removed before those page-view events are sent.

For the Public Site, the legal ground for the processing of your personal data is your consent. The purpose of the processing is to analyze and evaluate use of the Public Site. Google Analytics is not initialized on the Public Site unless you choose Allow analytics, and you can change this choice through Privacy Settings. In the Application, Google Analytics may initialize by default when no preference is stored and the browser does not send a Global Privacy Control signal; Privacy Settings, a stored decline, and a browser Global Privacy Control signal control optional analytics. The Google Analytics retention setting is configured in the Google Analytics property and is not stated as a fixed period in this Cookie Policy.

6. Cookie Preferences

We obtain opt-in consent for optional analytics when you first access the Public Site and have not already made a choice on that browser and device. A pop-up allows you to choose “Allow analytics” or “Decline analytics”. A “Privacy Settings” control is available on the Public Site so that you can review and change this choice. The Application does not present a first-run analytics pop-up. In the Application, optional product analytics may initialize by default when no preference is stored and the browser does not send a Global Privacy Control signal; its Privacy Settings control remains available to change the analytics choice. The Public Site does not provide category-level cookie controls.

If you decline optional analytics, Vala does not initialize optional analytics for that choice. We use browser local storage, rather than a cookie, to remember that analytics preference on your browser and device.

If you have allowed analytics but later decide that you want to decline it for the future, you can change your choice through Privacy Settings. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, optional analytics is disabled and the signal takes precedence over a stored Allow analytics choice.

7. Other Ways to Manage Cookies

In addition to using Privacy Settings, most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies and to delete cookies. The methods for doing so vary from browser to browser, and from version to version. As of the date of this Cookie Policy, the publishers of the most popular browsers provide up-to-date information at the following links about blocking and deleting cookies:
